183 Things I Love About My Husband After Six Months of Marriage

“If we take care of the moments, the years will take care of themselves.” – Maria Edgeworth

6 months | 22 weeks | 183 days | 4344 hours | 260,640 minutes | a million + seconds

I still have to pinch myself sometimes, because it just seems unreal, being married. This week we will officially reach our 6 month milestone as a married couple. For some that may seem insignificant, but for me, it’s special. It’s special because when I look back on my life before I was married, I can whole-heartedly say that every single struggle, times of loneliness, heartbreak and times of doubt were worth it.  1000% worth it. I thank the Lord everyday for my husband and you know what? It’s true when they say that you will love them more with time. Within this short 6 months I have fallen in love with with him a hundred times over and sometimes for reasons I’ll never be able to explain.

In honor of this sweet little milestone, I wanted to share 183 things I love about my husband. I choose the number 183 because that’s about how many days are in six months and because 22 (weeks in six months) is just not enough and let’s be honest, 4344 (hours in six months) might be a stretch. ūüôā Well, here it goes…

Saying Yes to Forever

3 Ways to Spring Clean Your Life

Hello, Spring! (finally)

The sun is shining, the windows are down, the flowers are blooming and I just can’t get enough of this beautiful Spring weather we are having here in the south! I sure did miss these longer days. How about you?

For me, the season always brings with it the urge to spring clean. Carpet shampooing, closet purging, garage organizing….and go! It just feels so darn good to clear the clutter and freshen up the house after hibernating all winter. But today I want to go deeper and I’m not talking about adding the baseboards to your list to clean. I’m talking about spring cleaning for your life.

When was the last time you took a closer look into your personal health, your business, the time spent with your family…or how you are using your spare time? Maybe that was just a few months ago when looking for new year’s resolutions or maybe it’s long overdue for a refresh. If this is you, join me this Spring as I take a few steps to declutter my own life. #SpringCleaningtheLife

Spring Clean // Health

Finding balance in a healthy diet and consistent workouts is a never ending struggle for me. My routine is often different week over week leaving me feeling burnt out, tired and lacking motivation. I’ve noticed that changing habits to healthy ones is more effective when I take baby steps.

A few weeks I opened my fridge and you know what was on the shelves? Hardly anything and what was there was either expired or unhealthy. (um, gross!) This tells me two things:

  1. I hate grocery shopping and my husband is probably always starving.
  2. We eat out way too often because of the lack of food in our house.

I’ve decided to not only keep my fridge clean, but to make sure I am stocking it with healthy options. Fruits, veggies and natural foods. I’ve been binging on Pinterest lately looking for nutritious recipes to keep us focused throughout the week and putting those into a simple meal plan. TIP: Make a Pinterest board for weekly meal plans that has 7 breakfast recipes, 7 lunch ideas, 7 dinner recipes and 1-2 healthy dessert ideas. This makes it even easier to make your grocery list and choose a meal each day without having to sift through millions of Pinterest recipes 5 minutes before you are already hangry.

Now for the workouts. I get bored with the same ole workouts week after week. I’ve got to have some variety. How about you? I like to keep my workouts fresh by trying different programs or finding new fitness professionals to follow. Here are a few of my favorites!

  1. Daily Burn
  2. Cassey Ho – Blogilates
  3. Nike + Training Club App

Making small changes like replacing potato chips with kale chips or changing up my workout routine help me choose healthier options each day and before I know it, I’ve got a healthier lifestyle than I did a month ago. What small changes can you make to slowly improve your health? Whatever it is, never stop pursuing a better version of yourself. #SpringCleaningtheLife

Spring Clean // Spare Time

This one is HUGE in my life. When I say huge, I don’t mean I have a never ending supply of free time (seriously, what is this “free time” people speak of?), I’m talking about the way I spend what little free time I have is down right silly. (SILLY STUPID!)

I often times associate free time with relaxation. Do you do that? I’m surely not alone here. I get 30 minutes of down time and what do I do?… I grab the nearest device I have and scroll those social feeds. For what? To see how others are enjoying their life and being productive? I could be spending those extra 30 minutes doing things I need to do. Like organizing my desk, finishing the book that’s collecting dust on my nightstand or going for a walk with the pup.

Now don’t get me wrong, relaxation is a thing, a very important thing. Believe you me, I make time for some quality relaxation time. But those other down times that are not classified as relaxing, I want to improve those minutes or hours by being  more productive and less “scrolly”. (Definition of “scrolly” (adj.): when one uses their spare time to exercise their thumbs for no apparent reason) Yep – just made that up. Are you with me here? #SpringCleaningtheLife

Spring Clean // Finances

Here’s the thing, I’m spoiled and my husband is a grade A spoiler and I love every bit of it. (Did I just say I was spoiled out loud? Forget you saw that) Another fun fact about me is that I love love love trying new things. I’ve always been an early adopter to new techy things or test out those pesky subscription based apps or workshops. I think being a forever student is just my thing. With that, I often times find myself with of list of fees that are billed every month over and over. Now that doesn’t include the Netflix and Hulu fees. Those are a must-have, can’t live without kind of subscriptions, am I right?

The feeling of knowing your finances are in order is one of the best feelings in the world. Here’s some things to consider when sprucing up those dollars.

  1. Cancel all those app based subscriptions that you never use and delete those apps from your devices. Trust me, you will never miss them.
  2. Cancel that gym membership you never use and try a free workout plan that you can do from your garage.
  3. Before you buy something ask yourself:
    • Will I use it?
    • Do I want to store it?
    • Do I want to clean it?
    • Can I use the money to buy something else that is more important?
  4. Download the Dave Ramsey podcast. It has truly shaped my ideas and opinions on managing money. Life changer.

I bet you, after decluttering those finances that you sleep a little better! I know I sure will. #SpringCleaningtheLife

Whew! I already feel better knowing that there are a few goals in place for spring cleaning in my life. Now if I could just finish up the list of house cleaning that needs to get done.  ūüôā

Do you have other ways of decluttering and spring cleaning your life or planning to try out some of these ideas? I’d LOVE to hear about it! Leave me a comment below or share with me on Instagram using the hashtag #SpringCleaningtheLife and I’ll stop by and check it out!

Senior Session | Lily 2017

I have been blown away by the talent and beauty of this year’s senior class. A few weeks ago,¬†I had the pleasure of photographing miss¬†Lily’s senior portraits and what can I say, the camera just LOVED her (so did I – I mean, look at those eyes!) Not only is she gorgeous, she is just as beautiful on the inside.

Lily totally rocked her senior session from beginning to end despite the crazy wind we had that day. ¬†Now, let’s take a moment to admire Lily’s sense of style. She brought two adorable outfits that worked perfect for a few new downtown locations I had scouted for this year’s sessions.

Thank you do much for the best afternoon, Lily! Congrats on your Senior Year!

Living for Saturdays

I love Saturday mornings. I love the sun beaming through the window and the idea of abandoning all of our weekday routines for more adventure.  I turn off my work emails and put all the to-do lists aside. I do more dreaming and exploring. I simply live for Saturdays.

We got lucky last Saturday with some amazing weather in the middle of January and we seized the opportunity to get in the car and explore. One of my most loved things about living in the northwest part of Arkansas is that my local bucket list is just overflowing with places to see and they are all within a day’s drive.

I grabbed our backpack, water bottles and put on my usual Saturday attire – workout pants, of course – and we headed out to one of the most beautiful trials in the state, Centerpoint to Goat Trail in Ponca, AR.

Every single time we set out for on a new hike, we are never disappointed. This state’s natural beauty is breathtaking. We knew we were in for the long haul on this one with a 1.5 hour drive to the trail head and a 3.5 mile walk to the view, but without hesitation we trekked on.

The hike began pretty easy as expected, after reading the reviews. It was a downhill, rocky hike with a little mud in places until we reached the bluffs. The bluffs lead us through it’s bending trees that grew on the side of the mountain. These trees were so neat the way they twisted and bent around the bluff. It was like walking through a fairy tale of sorts.

Once out of the trees, it opened up. The edge of the bluff led us along the entire side of the mountain overlooking a beautiful blue-green river. We walked the side of the bluff and exploring the little cave-like overlooks and even meeting a few campers who had stayed overnight. After taking in the view and of course grabbing a few photos, we headed back down.

Well sorta “down”. Oddly enough our 3.5 mile hike to the view was all downhill and now we had to hike back UP 3.5 miles to get back. Whew! That view and the full 7 mile trekk was more than worth it. It was everything we had hoped for our Saturday adventure.

This is what Saturdays were all about for us. The views, the irreplaceable experiences and the exploration of this beautiful earth that God gave us. If anything, I encourage you to make a local bucket list of your own. Our very own backyards are crawling with spectacular places and experiences just waiting on us to arrive.

Give Your Hair What It Wants: L’Oreal EverCreme

I received these L'Oreal EVER products complimentary, but all opinions are my own.

Do you ever feel like your hair just has a mind of it’s own sometimes? I’ve felt like that lately with this crazy weather we’ve been having here in Arkansas. My hair doesn’t know if it should frizz up, ¬†dry up or both. (Ugh.)

Thanks to L’Oreal ‘s new EverCreme Sulfate Free Moisture Care System, I can get through this brutal winter and keep my hair looking and feeling nourished all season long. Let me fill you in on the details!

This hair care system is made up of 3 products, EverCreme Shampoo, Conditioner and Renourishing Butter.

L'Oreal EverCreme

Renourishing Butter:¬†I am going to tell¬†you about this one first, because I know exactly what you are thinking. If you are like me, you are already thinking, ‘butter? Yea…probably not for me.’ Ha! Let me just tell you…,my hair is thick thick thick and I shy away from heavy cremes like this because they tend to weigh my hair down making it look limp. (Can you relate?) Well, I decided to give it a shot since I was trying new things and I’d do anything to get rid of my dry, frizzy mess. To my surprise, I LOVED it. I applied the butter on after shampooing and before I finished with conditioner. Um talk about some major softness.

L'Oreal EverCreme Renourishing Butter

The EverCreme Shampoo: I am crazy about this shampoo you guys. It smells incredible and my hair feels so clean afterwards. It is also a cream based product, but like the butter, it’s not a heavyweight on your hair. (Score!)

L'Oreal EverCreme Shampoo

The EverCreme Conditioner: I use the conditioner last, after the butter to seal the deal for moisturizing. I didn’t know what to think about using the butter and conditioner in one washing, but it turned out amazing! I couldn’t stop touching my hair.

L'Oreal EverCreme Conditioner

Now for the details, this EverCreme line is sulfate-free! ¬†It doesn’t contain those harsh salts, dyes or parabens that cause a wide variety of issues. (Can I get an amen?) It’s made up of natural botanicals making your hair feel free, fresh and clean. Say that 5 times fast ūüôā

L'Oreal EverCreme Sulfate/Free

I’ve always heard that it’s good to change up your hair care routine every month or so. If you are looking to try something new, I would recommend this new L’Oreal EverCreme trio. Give your hair what it wants! #FreeYourHair

Make This Valentines Day Timeless

This post is sponsored by JORD,Inc., but all opinions are my own.

Oh, Valentines Day. For some, V-day¬†is the ultimate dreaded day and for other’s we just seem to skim by and hope that it passes quickly. (I see you nodding your head over there!)¬†If you ask me, I’ve always thought of it as a silly overrated day where girls expect something mushy from their guys and the guys just participate because society tells them they have to. Am I right?!

I want my man to know how much I love him every single day and it doesn’t take a special day for me to communicate that to him. We love getting each other unexpected gifts on random days and doing date nights in the middle of the week. ¬†But, you know what? We like to make V-day a day for a more creative style date night experience. This is a chance to do something out of the ordinary, to change it up and be creative. For us, it’s all about making new memories and celebrating the old ones from when we first started dating.

Now for the gifts. This is where I always draw a blank. It’s so cliche to get chocolate and roses. (Although, I’ll never turn down chocolate!) And ladies, what in the world do you buy a man on V-Day???? I’m pretty sure that my man would laugh and give me one of those¬†half smiles if I presented¬†him a stuffed bear and¬†chocolate. Haha! I like to think outside of the box and get something that reminds my man how special he is day after day. And that’s not something you can pickup at the grocery store on your way home. ¬†Am I right??

So, for those of you that are stumped and need some creative ideas for your V-Day, I’ve got you covered! Here’s¬†a perfect gift idea and some creative date nights I thought of just for you!

A timeless V-Day gift:

  1. A JORD¬†wood watch. What is more romantic than showing how your time is and always will be his/hers with a new watch? Every time he/she looks down and sees it they’ll remember you. I am so in-love with my #woodwatch . JORD offers some beautiful wood watches for both men and women and if you want to get a head start on this V-day thing, why not get one now? Oh and I can’t forget to mention that you can engrave them with something sweet! (Melt me!)Jord WatchesJord Watches
JORD is hosting a giveaway now until Jan 29th, 2017. and just by entering the giveaway you can get a $25 off code. (Score!) One lucky winner will get a $100 JORD e-gift code! Enter HERE.

Date Night Ideas:

  1. Take a cooking class together. There’s something about an apron and some yummy spaghetti sauce that really makes the night one to remember. Enjoy each other’s company while making a delicious dinner together.
  2. Be a tourist in your own city.¬† This one is probably my favorite. ¬†I love to be spontaneous and drive around the city finding new restaurants we’ve never tried and exploring the little shops that are popping up all around us. A couple that explores together stays together.
  3. Tackle a bucket list item together.  What better way to make your V-day memorable than to spend it experiencing something you will never forget. And if you ask me, I think it would be so romantic if my man thought of marking something off of my bucket list. How sweet and thoughtful!
  4. Listen to live music. I would take this date night ANYTIME. Going to a local concert or live music night¬†and getting to know someone better is my idea of a great date. The music just makes everything easier and puts us all in great mood. Just make sure he/she enjoys the genre. ūüôā
  5. Go on your second 1st date. It never fails, when my husband and I pass by our 1st date restaurant or have a date night there we always reminisce about how our relationship began. It brings back that young love feeling inside of us. Replay the night you first met or your first date for old times sake.

So cheers to Valentines day folks! Let’s make this one the one they’ll never forget.

A t-shirt¬†with a little southern charm. ūüôā

So here’s the thing, I was born and raised a southern girl and I enjoy every second of our¬†silly southern quirks. Including, wearing t-shirts that display our love for the south. ūüôā Can I get a yeehaw? (Ok, that was a little cheesy! I won’t make you say that!)

I’ve partnered with Pig Trail Clothing, a local Northwest Arkansas clothing company, to give you a chance to win this adorable, “It’s a Southern Thing” tee. (com’on, does it get any cuter than that??!)

P.S. if you missed my New Year’s One Word Resolution post, I’d love if you hopped over to¬†tell me what you think about this approach to 2017.

2017 One Word Resolution

2017 One Word Resolution

Just like every year, I sat down with my favorite notebook to begin listing out my New Year’s resolutions. ¬†After just a few minutes, my list was unrealistically long and I discovered that there were many things on the list that kept returning¬†year after year. (sigh)¬†I also noticed that there was a common theme in each one. My list was made up of things I didn’t like about myself or where I found weakness. I wanted this year to be positive and less about who I was tired of being and more focused on how I could be¬†the best me I could be and what that transformation process looked like. So I turned the page and wrote one word: Intentional.

I’m tossing the long list of changes¬†and making 2017 my year to be Intentional. ¬†The idea is that this word will serve as a theme in all aspects of my life. ¬†I hope you will toss your¬†list and join me in picking one word for your life this year.¬†Who says we have to be boxed into that list of corrections for our life anyway?!

Since I am choosing Intentional, I wanted to briefly explain how this will play a role in a few key areas for me and then give you a few words to kick start the discovery of your own word.

Spiritually

First and foremost,  my journey with the Lord is the most important aspect of my life. Without his guidance, nothing is possible. This year, I want to be more intentional than I have ever been in order to deepen my relationship with the Lord.

Relational

I want my husband to know how head over heals in love I am with him every single day. I want my closest friends and family to feel valued. And I want those new people that come into my life over the next 365 days to know that I care about them.

Work Life

This is a big one for me. I juggle many different avenues of “work” in my life. My real 9-5, my favorite – blogging and my most challenging – photography. I want to strive to be as intentional as possible to continue to grow and develop with purpose in each of these areas of my life.

So there you have it. Call me crazy, but this one word will be my 2017 motto, my theme, my anthem, in everything I do. Now the fun part, creating something with that word on it to serve as a reminder to me every day for the next 365 days.

Are you thinking of joining me on this one word journey? If so, here are some other great words to consider for yourself.

  • Consistent
  • Balance
  • Simplicity
  • Disciplined
  • Progress
  • Joy

I am excited to hear what you choose! Tell me in the comments below.

The Latest: December Photoshoots

NOTICE: All photos are my own unless otherwise stated. You are prohibited from using any of these photos unless permission is given by me, the owner.

Checking the mail during¬†the holidays and finding sweet Christmas cards from our friends and family give me the warm and fuzzies! This season has been so busy for us that I didn’t even get our own Christmas cards out the door. No worries though, I’ll just have to make up for it next year. ūüôā

I’ve spent the last few weeks leading up to this Christmas weekend photographing some pretty amazing folks and wanted to share some of my favorites with you!

-Meet Tab & Devon-

These two are brother and sister and they make my job oh so easy! Tab and I go way way back to when we were college friends (oh the good times)! I had the pleasure of capturing some shots of them in Fayetteville, AR for their Christmas cards they will be sending across the U.S. to their family!

-Meet Amber & Corey-

This couple here was just the sweetest. I was in love with how Amber’s auburn hair looked in these wintery shots. We scheduled our shoot on what happen to be the coldest day of the year thus far and even caught some snow on the ground. That’s pretty lucky for Arkansas!

-Meet Bailey & Jace-

Does this little mother son duo get any cuter? I mean, I could just take photos of them all day. Jace was just full of energy and spirit that made this shoot even more fun, despite the rainy day. We found a dreamy field that made for a great spot to make some memories.
